The large ones were Jan-March and the smaller ones were April-Dec. Pictures are shown in the 35-36 ford book. However you can look at http://www.thebrassworks.net/shop/Re...afddabcc81977b
and get the idea. They are not perfect recreations but you get the idea.

Is there an advantage of one vs the other?

Well, interesting in that 36 Fords had a large tank [larger than 35]. I would interpret that to mean the large tank has an advantage....[holds more coolant]
Actually, in my 35, I run a 36 top tank adapted to fit. Never overheats.

My 2 cents is that the size of the top tank is less relevant to cooling efficiency than the entire system and how it integrates for cooling - i.e. cleanliness of block passages, efficiency/condition of the water pumps, thermostat selection, radiator condition, fan set up etc. I run a small tank in my April 35 Coupe with no cooling issues even with 284 cu and a blower.

Subsequent research at the Benson Ford Research Center indicates that the large tank version continued to be used throughout the '35 model years at those assembly plants serving the southern U.S. and the small tank version was installed at those assembly plants serving the northern part of the country. The source documents are the engineering release forms for both radiators which specify which assembly plants were to use which version.
