Default Inertial third brake light - suction mounted

A friend at the Pinetree Jamboree had a suction mounted battery powered inertial (mercury switch ?) third brake light.

No manufacturer identity on the case.

Would appreciate any help sourcing as it seemed to do the job and be easily moved between cars.

Thank you.

Maybe check out Google. I know they make them for bicycles.

Here are some available on Amazon:

I bought one years ago on Ford Barn, has suction cups and 4 bulbs, mercury operated when hit brakes. Works great.

Sounds interesting. The one 38Bill references on Amazon are all for bicycles - don't see how you would easily apply any of those to a car. Bob - can you identify your source, or Jacques - can you ask your friend?

That’s the exact one - suction cup mounting. He thought the name might have been something like Brake-lite (?)

Can they even sell Mercury these days?

I would check out Brake-Liter -- love mine and I even have it set up to work with turn signals.
Best part, is the guy sent me one to test, and if he didnt hear back from me in a week, he would then charge my card. If I didnt like it, I let him know and then send it back.

Those look nice, but this was cordless and activated by stopping - likely a mercury switch. Really slick.

Main body was only about 4” wide, perhaps 5” with the suction cup brackets.

The bicycle versions referenced above look very similar, save for the suction cups

Uncle Bezos has something called BikeSpark which looks like the ticket, absent the suction cups . Shouldn’t be too hard to fab a mount

i agree with nelsb01,i too have a brake-liter kit installed on my '37 fordor split window. all the distracted and tailgators wake up when you tap the brake before actually stopping. its remarkable how it works. Tom.

farmertom: Thanks for posting. Please let us know where we can purchase the brake-liter kit you speak of.
This is what I found but, it requires wiring.
https://www.brakelighter.com/

Here's the no wire bike light set up.

yeah,19Fordy that is correct website for brakelighter, and it does require wiring fairly easy. on my "37 fordor i made a 1/4" size hole in cardboard package tray and run the entire wire harness down to underside of car study carefully how to get to wires you need to tap into.you will find that you will use most of the length up.Tom

I installed a Flasher Module on the third brake light on my '30 Town Sedan and my '55 Ranchwagon to wake up the person behind me. It flashes the light three times then stays solid. 12v only tho.

Wanted to report back on my progress.

“Brake Spark” makes a rechargeable inertial LED brake light for bicycles that is really bright.

Using suction cups from Uncle Bezos and a piece of 1/8 x 3/4 aluminum bar stock, I made a very workable prototype with another to follow.

Very happy with the results !
