I managed to get a photo from a friend of the mounting bracket and spring on an Australia 1939 Ford. As you can see, it is mounted correctly on this example, with the spring at the bottom.

Australian 1939 Ford Deluxe Hood bracket and spring. The spring is in the correct position at the bottom, but the brackets should be swapped around right to left and left to right so that the spring is on the inside, not the outside like on this example.

Notice also that the 1939 standard car has a two step voltage regulator and cut out unit on top of the generator instead of the firewall mounted unit on the Deluxe cars. These generator mounted regulators were accessories for the 1934 Fords that were equipped with a radio. Regards, Kevin.

Um, not necessarily...
The earlier cars had a cutout. Later cars got a regulator regardless whether or not a radio was installed.

Kube, talking only 34 Fords here, my thoughts are that almost all cars had a round cut out only. But cars ordered with a radio or retro fitted with a radio by the dealer had a regulator fitted Usually. Now these regulators gave some considerable trouble and were a bit difficult for the average dealer to get adjusted to work correctly and so were removed and replaced with a round cut out more often than not. I remember in the early 1960s visiting various wrecking yards here and seeing a few of these regulators lying around that nobody wanted. I am not convinced that all late 1934 Fords were fitted with these regs, some maybe. But this is Australia and not the USA. Regards, Kevin.
