The threads where the side bowl bolts to the carb top were pitted, well they finally gave way. Is it fixable? Helicoil! Braze and retap?????

Helicoil, should be 1/2 X 20 TPI. Make sure you bolt the flat surface of the carb. to a angle plate and don't let that drill grab. JHHO.

Take a drill that is the correct size and grind most all the tip off just leaving enough flute to cut on the edge so it will act like a plunge cut end mill. You don't want to drill into the seat for the seal.

On a side bowl carburetor the bolt that holds the side bowl to the carburetor top does not seat the way a gas line with a ferrule seats on a non-side bowl carburetor. The gaskets on the side bowl do the seating and prevent gas leaks.

The helicoil will come with a recommended drill size. In the past, I have used a couple of undersized drills leading up to the helicoil size so that you are only skimming material out of the hole a little at a time. Use the Helicoil drill last. This prevents the drill from grabbing a lot of material at once. Ed

Duh on me! Correct about the the sealing part! Still good advice for installing helicoil in non side bowl carb.
