Re: Cross Country, in a Stock Coupe!
We are traveling with another couple in a 29 phaeton, towing a camper trailer,so far they have done. Over 4500 miles,we are traveling at about 80 klm and so far the only problem was a broken fan belt.
We were supposed to be. In our 33 but had a few hiccups so we are in our 06 failane. The model A tows like nothing,it has an overdrive. Lawrie |

Re: Cross Country, in a Stock Coupe!
Benson: I currently have a 4-blade fan and it looks good.
Christian: That's great you're going to cross the country, it's still a great challenge even with a hopped up engine! Just don't pretend like its a modern car and you'll probably be fine. There's no reason for the interstate, it's too fast and noisy, and full of ugly fast food and chain stores! Lawrie: Sounds like a wonderful adventure, i'd love to hear more about it! Workin on the car today, will be getting the brakes and bearings all done by friday, also dropping the oil pan and cleaning it/ checking on my babbitt. Should be solid here pretty soon! |

Re: Cross Country, in a Stock Coupe!
I think that if you were to give your approximate route, that some Fordbarners would step up and welcome you to a warm-cooked meal or even a night on a bed rather than the ground. When you have decided let us all know. On your next trip, up through Oregon, you are welcome at my house.

Thanks Lee, much appreciated! I have no problems trading some live music and stories for a home-cooked meal and a warm bed!

Why don't you drop Mac's, Bratton's, Snyders et al a line, tell them what you are doing and see if you can get a little assistance/sponsorship, particularly if you get the suggested TV interest and the blog going?

Re: Cross Country, in a Stock Coupe!
Sounds like a great trip!!! Good for you guys!!! Contact some radio stations along the way that play country or old time music see if you guys can stop by and if they'll sponsor you. Also maybe ask you insurance company to sponsor part of it for give them some free advertising. Sounds like a blast!!! Have fun and keep us all posted!!!

Re: Cross Country, in a Stock Coupe!
Here's a generic route that google maps gave me: I'll have to really look through it and tailor it to suit the trip eventually. Gotta hit some gas stations, and some cool antique stores along the way! Boy, the desert sure is long...

Re: Cross Country, in a Stock Coupe!
Not sure, we're thinkin of going to Columbia for a banjo and fiddle contest to compete and try to win some prize money for the trip, that's on September 27th, but I know going over the Sierras would be pretty steep for the old gal. I would definitely love to avoid going through L.A. though...

I live about 30 minutes from Columbia and work commute take me right past there almost every day. If you get stuck, you know who to call! Columbia is also mere feet away from Sonora, and it so happens that Sonora has a very large, and quite active Model A club. They gather every Saturday morning at Perko's in Sonora at 08:00 hrs. If you dropped by, you would meet several cross-country Model A'ers as many of them have done several cross country trips. They had 4 cars do the Washington trip, and in October a whole bunch of them are doing a trip across a couple of states. |

Re: Cross Country, in a Stock Coupe!
P.S., I talked to my buddy and we are definitely going to the contest. First planned stop on our trip! We went once and I competed and got 2nd place in fiddle, which was fun and got to grab a nice little check. We'll be bringing along CD's of our music to sell as well. I will post some music of ours on the blog pretty soon so y'all can hear what we sound like, and I was thinking if anyone wanted to help with our trip, a $25 donation would include us sending you a copy of our CD if you like our music and support what we're doing. There is as "donate" button on the blog, just leave a note about wanting a CD and an address and we'll get it in the mail either during or after our trip.

Re: Cross Country, in a Stock Coupe!
My wife and I just got back from a 3200 mile trip in our coupe. Camped 2 nights modeled the rest. 45 to 50 mph on back roads, no breakdowns, we had a ball. Good luck and know your car before you go. JB

Re: Cross Country, in a Stock Coupe!
I envy you guys. Wish I could get away and do the same thing. I've thought about driving one of my Model T's or A, across the country many times. Other than some tours where we traveled 100 miles in a day and one ride from my house to my cottage (170 miles), I haven't really ventured out to far. I wish you good luck and remember to take tons of photos. This sounds like a trip you will remember for the rest of your life. Stay safe. Gary

Re: Cross Country, in a Stock Coupe!
That was fun to look at and also enjoyed the music. My very first car, in 1963, was a stock, very much original 1930 Model A a Coupe. I put 30,000 miles on that car in less than 4 years.....lots of wonderful memories!
