Default Looking for installation advice for Winfield neutralizer.

I installed it and it seems that the pulley Is out about three quarters of an inch further than the stock pulley. This causes an issue for the water pump and generator pullies. Does anybody have any advice on how to remedy this? Did I screw up somewhere?

There is a groove in the shank of the pulley that fits over the end of the woodruff key that holds the timing gear to the crankshaft. You must have missed the key. Remove the bolt that holds the neutralizer-pulley to the crankshaft , rotate the neutralizer while pushing inward untill the grove meets the woodruff key and the neutralizer shold slip back as needed.

What's a Winfield neutralizer? Some sort of balancer?

If you already tightened the crank bolt, it might be wise to remove the pulley to make sure you didn't damage the end of the shaft.

If it is vibrating so bad that one would consider spending $295.00 to fix the problem, I would think that a better repair on the engine is needed. And if it really is not that bad and one only wants it a little smoother $295.00 still seems a little high. Just my opinion.

The word is that the repro neutralizer doesn't fix a bad or out of balance engine, I remember years ago when the part was reproduced, the guy that reproduced it was asked if the part actually worked, his reply was he didn't know. Its mostly a matter of what you want to try. If it makes you feel good, do it. I don't personally think that adding weight to the rotating assembly does that much good. I prefer quick throttle response . Adding weight to the rotating assembly slows response. To each his own.

the idea of it is to lengthen crank life. it probably won't be felt in your seat-of-the pants. i use fluid dampers adapted from a small-block chevy on my bonneville engine.

Jim, can you tell me what Chevy damper you use and how it's attached. I do need to have it work as a pulley for the generator and water pump.
