"Click" & "Clack", The Tappet Brothers
I imagine Tom & Ray Magliozzi have, at one time or another, dealt with a flathead issue on their NPR (National Public Radio) radio show "Car Talk". I know they have dealt with a Ford problem or two. If you've never heard them, you can here;
http://www.cartalk.com/content/our-show and read the news about Tom here; https://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motora...204533423.html Thanks to all Barners who have been so generous, so often, in sharing your insight and knowledge on the Ford Barn! Warm Regards, AlDeBear |

Re: "Click" & "Clack", The Tappet Brothers
I know I am new here but I must pipe in on this one ...I used to listen to these guys religiously for years . On one show they spent 1/2 hour cutting up in the most derogatory terms a national political figure , at that point they went from an excellent show to just a couple of political hacks and I never listened again ........ there is a place for everything....

Tom's battle with Alzeimers was behind the ending of the show. RIP Tom.

Re: "Click" & "Clack", The Tappet Brothers
They still play reruns in XM. I agree they are funny but they did turn into anti SUV environmentalists. Girl calls in " I need something with good ground clearance, 4WD, that will tow a trailer and hold 7 people but I Agee with you I'm anti SUV" Tom and Ray " I definitely agree you don't need an SUV ,how about a Honda Odyssey or a Suburb Outback"..... YOU NEED A SUV!

One of my favorite shows.
"And don't act like my brother.." "Our chauffeur, Picup Andropov" and many more plays on names. RIP Tom, with condolences to Ray and their families. |

Re: "Click" & "Clack", The Tappet Brothers
Their preferences and opinions aside, Click and Clack helped many people come to understand some basic mechanics of automobiles and they always encouraged safety and vehicle maintenance. I enjoyed their personalities and banter, and it was sad to see the show end. The best part for me was Tom's laughter and willingness to not act as though he knew it all. God bless Tom .... he gave us the gift of his humor.

Re: "Click" & "Clack", The Tappet Brothers
Click and Clack filled the long drives as my wife and I would go to visit my Mother-in-law in the nursing home for several months. She can now sit and try to understand Tom's humor where they are now residing.
Everyone's got a political opinion and many have paid the price for those freedoms...Enjoy the humor and heed there educated advise. Two of my favorite quotes: "How do you know if you've got a good mechanic? By the size of his boat." and "If it falls off, it doesn't matter." Tommy Magliozzi you will be missed. |

Re: "Click" & "Clack", The Tappet Brothers
Don't get me wrong I love listening to them and they were hilarious and seem like they would be fun to hang out with and this has nothing to do with politics but they were not fans of "gas guzzlers " although the Dodge Dart wasn't exactly a gas mizer. I wish all the best to Tom and his family.

Re: "Click" & "Clack", The Tappet Brothers
They were GREAT on NPR radio and always fun to listen to - and we've had their newspaper column in our Saturday paper for a long time!! They answer two questions per week and give good advice. Wonder if that will continue as it had to be just Ray writing both parts for the past year or two - ?? Or maybe with a "ghost" writer assistant?

Re: "Click" & "Clack", The Tappet Brothers
I attach a link to a rebroadcast of an interview with them from ten years ago or so. This may get updated, but you should be able to find it. It is worth a listen. It has an interview with Doug Berman who was their producer, and the interview. It is tough to listen to at the end as Doug was clearly very upset. http://www.npr.org/programs/fresh-air/
The show has had rebroadcasts for the last two years, which can be detected by age of the cars people are calling in about. Towards the end, Tom was not as engaged as before, something I and others noticed. |

Re: "Click" & "Clack", The Tappet Brothers
Loved the show and my thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Loved their sense of humor and couldn't give two poops if they ranted about politics or gas guzzlers.
Heck, how many people here rant on about stupid stuff too. Tom will be missed by my family since we all enjoyed listening to their program. Yes, we still listen to re-runs. I also loved the knick names they gave out to people both associated with the show and obviously made-up. I still have a their mock presidential campaign bumper sticker on my clip board. Re: "Click" & "Clack", The Tappet Brothers
Sorry to hear of Tom's passing. And thanks to "mhsprecher, " for posting the link to, " Teri Gross, " and "Fresh air. " Tom and Ray were such a blessing. They were the, " Will Rogers, " and " Mark Twain, " of our generation. I just feel priveledged to have been able to hear and read these two Masters of humor. Their radio show was just so pure. They had the talent to help people who listened to them, gain some understanding of how automobiles work, while being entertained by humor. My wife knows more about the workings of cars, through listening to them, than by listening to me ! I am glad I knew of them both.
