Default Body Shims

I think I have a grasp on how to shim the body on my 30 ccpu to get the doors to line up correctly, but my question is, what do I use to shim it. It's not a points car so are there any suggestions or do the vender offer anything? As always ....thanks.

After reading your comment, what does it matter if it is a points car or not? Do what Ford engineered and usually you will find it works with great success. In this instance, he used rubber pads. Sheet rubber works well if you choose to fabricate your own --or just purchase an additional rubber pad kit from your favorite Model-A vendor. If you find yourself needing over a couple thicknesses of pads, you likely have issues elsewhere that should be addressed first.

a litttl trick i learned is to cut a slot from the hole in the pad to the out side of the pad, the same size as the hole, that way, if you have to add more shims you wont have to completely remove the bolt, just loosen it and jack up the body enough to slip in another shim

I am not too impressed with the rubber pads that I have seen from the vendors. The rubber has no reinforcement and tends to squish. I purchased some of the belt stock used on round bailers at TSC and cut my own. It has cloth / thread bonded into it and worked well for me.

The rubber shims that Ford used are quite similar to conveyer belt material. I believe the standard thickness was about 3/16" thick. Tractor Supply carries baler belting that is also similar to what Ford used and it has cording in it.

I have a couple of truck mud flaps and golf cart mat I use to cut out different rubber pads, another good source is a totally bald golf cart tire---this rubber has cord in it so it can be made into hangers and other high stress use
