Wrong Throwout Fork
The 73-7006 case uses a special fork with longer arms which prevents overthrow of the bearing, locking the clutch in a disengaged condition. The number on the correct fork starts with 73, not 48. Go figure! Good Luck: Fred A

Daniel …...I must apologize for seemingly wasting your time here. I guess it stands to reason that with the lengthy considerations and requests for clarifications that I posted above, it appears that I STILL did NOT take enough time to read and think about the problem. Hell, I'm still trying to locate "a lot of that guessing" that I'm said to have put forth. Nevertheless, it's been made loud and clear here that "Mr. Hoop" has your problem solved for ya..... to whom I yield! DD |

Re: v8-60 transmission help
The v8-60 commercial trans uses the same gearset as the big brother in the regular cars. Thus it has the larger input shaft that uses the big brother clutch and throw out bearing. So it has a different fork than the small 60 HP trans. He did'nt change anything other than the disc so the problem has to be related to linkage adjustment or clutch disk.

Re: v8-60 transmission help
Who is referring to the V8-60 passenger fork (74-7515)? The trans in question is the commercial and truck trans, not passenger, which uses a longer fork (73-7515) because the 60 commercial clutch shaft is placed lower in the case (73-7006) and needs the extra fork length to prevent locking the "clutch in a disengaged condition". Not likely there is a passenger fork, but the 48-7515 which has been the service replacement from Model A into the fifties. The correct fork is tough to find but functions perfectly. Lots of confusion and mis-information flying around here. Admit that the 60 commercial trans is a bit uncommon but it is more often misused as a replacement for the 39 type top shifter. Good Luck: Fred A

Re: v8-60 transmission help
Thank you to all. I spent a lot of time on this build and apparently cleaned the transmission too well. After taking off the inspection cover and lubricating things (Thanks Cas3 for the suggestion). Things freed up.I still need to add a return spring. I managed to go for a drive for the first time in 4 years. The build is a v8-60 with a Maserati 8CTF chain driven supercharger once owned and ran by Joe Barzda. It still needs some tuning but otherwise ran and drove well. Thanks again for the help and suggestions. I was getting frustrated.

Re: v8-60 transmission help
Daniel, that is one unique looking engine installation. I am glad you were able to resolve your clutch issue.
