Engine looks awesome!

The upside down picture is due to the gyroscope in the ipad and the fact that you are standing above the object looking down. The gyroscope has not been set to horizon when picking up the ipad.
Be sure to look at the picture of the camera on the screen before you hit the button to make sure the ipad is in the right orientation when you pick it up off the table. You can see that little camera rotate orientation as you rotate your ipad.

Before taking a standing picture of the floor, first point the ipad at the wall to orient the ipad to what is up and then tilt down. That should fix the problem with up-side-down pics.

Wanted to go and put the oil pan and sump back on, but it's snowing and cold! Not an April fools day joke either.

I had someone ask about my color choice, well it's certainly not stock. First what color was it supposed to be? The block was a dark red. I believe that was correct for a Ford motor. However, the heads and intake were later model ford blue. And that seems reasonable as the motor had been rebuilt one time. When I pulled the oil pan to clean, paint, and reseal I could see the numbers punched into the rods. Now a Lincoln engine would have been a light Lincoln green.
Now what I ended up with was "Red Annodized". I primed the block which was light gray then when I started painting the red, it went on in a strange way. I read the can between the 2nd and 3rd coats (shoulda done that first) and it says to spray over chrome! Well it was kinda too late for that. There was only one thing to do.....keep painting. Anyhow, I'm actually happy it worked out this way. I like the dark maroon end result. The gray on the goosenecks and oil filter housing are "new ford gray".

Well I had a sticky valve after all. It runs good now but I have to go back into the valvetrain and adjust the valves. Apparently, the previous owner thought the lifter nose was acceptable...also had a lot of MMO to burn off so lots of smoke.

I thought the 337 Lincolns had hydraulic lifters. Not sure, but if they do, I agree it's pretty noisy for hydraulics.

This one is definitely not hydraulic lifters. But there are two sets of valve lash settings plus a third for the hydraulic lifters! I guess I'll try the "tighter" settings.

Got the lifter adjusted and also replaced one bad valve spring. Runs even better now, and with no lifter noise.

That sounds a lot better, runs nicely now.

I just noticed the generator stand in the photo of your first post. Did that go to some sort of extra large generator? I like old large capacity generators.

The generator was missing when I got the engine. I checked the part number for an original generator for the big trucks. It is different than say an 8ba flathead. However I had an 8ba generator here and tried it. It fit fine and I could have used it. I have kept the old generator stand and can reinstall it if I choose to. The alternator was one I had and the alternator bracket fits an 8 ba flathead.
