Angry Fenton Headers

Directions say some modification necessary. This has to be the biggest under statement of the year. Installing these is a freaking nitemare. Worst money spent. These headers are going on a 1940 Ford coupe with 85hp 24 stud. I have decided to go back to stock manifolds now. I will blast them, install new studs and have them powder coated using high temp powder. WTF Has anybody tried installing these?

They are definitely not one size fits all. You might check into Red's Headers for the 1940 to see if they look to be a better fit. They likely will fit around the steering gearbox better anyway.

The old original fentons fit better around the steering box. The new ones that speedway sells seem to be fatter. ( TM ) marking on the casting.
Not easy for sure.

I do have a set of old originals on my 32coupe, I did have to play around with them too. The engine is a full house Merc. They do look and sound cool!

I have a set of originals on my '51 (which they are not supposed to fit).It took a little effort, but they are certainly worth it. I put mine on in 1987. I am now changing the engine to a modified '51 Merc, and they still look like new after a little cleanup. Try that with steel tube headers. I will say that new motor mounts make the job easier.

X2 rotorwrench. I have a '41 but the Red's fit perfectly. Been on 16 years with no problems.

I have a pair of those Fenton headers that won't clear the steering box sitting on a shelf also. I bought a pair of Red's Headers and they worked great. I liked them just as much as the Fenton's.

You might consider getting JWL's book. In it he proves by dyno testing that the use of headers on stock or mild hop up, have no affect on power output. One of the big myths of the Flathead is: the exhaust system (Block included) is detromental to power output. Actually, it's very efficient. However, Duals and glasspacks sure do sound good

I've got some Fentons that I am putting on a current project, no clearance issues, but it's not a stock car.
I don't mean to hijack the thread, but to the other guys using Fentons, I was wondering what you are using to coat them? I like the cast look of them, but obviously don't want rust. Just looking at my options currently.

This not the 1st time we have seen complaints about no fit Fentons in a stock chassis.
That's why I went with Red's headers for the '40 coupe with a flatmotor. Fit like a glove, no sweat, like all Red's headers. If you understand the casting process, you will know why the modern Fentons are fatter, among other issues. American foundries were and are superior to many off shore ones in their processes and materials, but most of them are gone now.
