Default model T add on starter?

I was told this is part of an add on starter for a model T, any truth to this?

Looks like it might mount in-place of the generator and generator side cover and might be part of a governor. Not starter related. But could also be Model A. Without more photos cant really tell.

Seeing that view, does not mount like I thought. I can not think of any place that it would mount on a Model T or A. At this point my two suggestions would be: look for a Pat. number and do a search or post pictures on Smokstak® Antique Engine Community in this section; https://www.smokstak.com/forum/forum...and-trucks.57/ Maybe someone there might know.

Do these larger pictures help in identifying this part?

It does have a rubber donut type drive coupling on the one end with what appears to be some sort of clutch control on the other end. The large diameter disc in between has me baffled. It doesn't really look like a pulley due to its narrow width and may be more of a flywheel or part of the clutch design. A person can just barely see the narrow small diameter sprocket that is much like a bicycle chain sprocket. I can't really tell which end is the drive end and which end is the driven end and have no idea what it was designed to operate. It would certainly be interesting to know the story behind it.

Could it be an in & out clutch for a boat drive?
