Re: Extra Side trim on 1956 Ford Fairlane?
Here is another attempt to improve Henry's original design for the 1956 Fords. Those are 1956 Plymouth (1957 Australian Chrysler Royal) Tail Lights added above the original Ford Tail lights. This car started out as an Australian 1956 ford Customline, the only model that was released in Australia. |

My Gawd, that's ugly! Looks like the result of a collision between a '56 Ford, a '57 Studebaker and a Checker.

Dobbie, I think you meant to say a 58 Studebaker, (not 57) as they were the ones with the "tacked on" Dual Headlights. I totally agree with you.

Re: Extra Side trim on 1956 Ford Fairlane?
Went to an All Ford day in Australia today and look what I saw? Another 1956 Fairlane with extra Trim? It is a 1956 Ford Fairlane Town Victoria with extra Trim. while this car is a similar colour to the 1956 Ford Fairlane at the beginning of this Post, you will notice that this one is a 4 door Town Victoria, while the other one is a 2 door Club Victoria. If you look at the end of the top Strip, you will notice that it has a slant to match the contours of the Tail Light, whereas, the stock one below has a vertical end? It seems might strange that there are now 2 different cars in 2 different countries with the same trim? Can someone enlighten me please? |

Well, if it isn't a limited run factory one-off sort of thing whoever created it did a very good job of making it look like original parts.

Re: Extra Side trim on 1956 Ford Fairlane?
While I do NOT care for the look, I have to agree with dmsfrr, the workmanship is very good. I looked at both cars, 2 door and 4 door, and the extra trim seams to placed in the same place on both cars. What are the odds of two different builders doing that? I am not knowledgeable enough to say but it looks factory or perhaps dealer applied to me. Either way, sometimes there CAN be to much chrome.

Re: Extra Side trim on 1956 Ford Fairlane?
It seems incredible that two 1956 Fords, one a 2 door and the other a 4 door residing in countries on the opposite side of the world would have near identical trim. Someone out there must have made these trim kits?

Re: Extra Side trim on 1956 Ford Fairlane?
That is the first thing that struck me after seeing the second car - some aftermarket company making them.

Re: Extra Side trim on 1956 Ford Fairlane?
How come I can't see ANY of mercman's photos posted? I see the others. Do I need to get a secret decoder ring or something?
I feel left out of the loop.
