1936 cabriolet female dove tail latch
I was going to replace the female side of the dove tail latch.it has two springs and two metal latch mechanisms. I noticed that the springs sit on a little metal tab on the inside of the door jam that hold the spring from moving and slipping. I noticed that one of the tabs have broken off. Any suggestions on how to create this little tab or remedy the problem? Thanks.

Re: 1936 cabriolet female dove tail latch
I looked at Joes, they skip 36, ---for my 36 I dug in every promising box at fleamarkets for NOS pieces, have been able to build my conv sedan dovetails with original pieces, For your problem I have brazed in a small screw on one I fixed, it wasn't a cab though, post a picture of the assembly showing the missing area and we will give you some options

Re: 1936 cabriolet female dove tail latch
What you need is the housing for the female dovetail wedges. These were used on most all body styles except the station wagons and 1935-36 roadster and phaeton. There are at least TWO variations, one used 1935-1940 that accepts the metal inserts, and one that was used 1937-1938 (39?) that used phenolic (or hard rubber) inserts. The inserts are not compatible between the two types. The only housing that has been reproduced is the one for the phenolic inserts and its not currently available.
You could try a fix like Kurt suggested, or remove the housing and attempt welding a new tab as a repair, or find a junk door post for a donor. |

Re: 1936 cabriolet female dove tail latch
I had that problem on my 35 pickup driver door. I had a parts truck but it had the same problem on the driver door. I cut out the latch portion of the passenger door, turned it upside down and welded it in the driver door. Works great.

On page 106 it shows a repair kit for 36 passenger cars. Is this the springs you are looking for? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
