Default Replacement Hubcaps

I have a 1930 model a
Hub caps are rusty

I see places that have aftermarket stainless steel new hub caps.

Should I go ahead and just get new hub caps

or is it strongly encouraged to try and re-chrome the old ones?

Best place to order new?

The original 30-31 caps were stainless steel.

Thanks for the reply,

I guess the question is, should I do everything possible to keep the originals?
I know on some items the originals are much better quality or heavier duty.

Are their certain items like hub caps that buying new ones doesn't really matter or decrease the value of the vehicle?

yes if you have rusted ones, not org buy the new ones, put a little rubber cement or silicone on the tabs before you bend them over ( wont rattle after) no need to bend all the tabs over.without that neat hubcap tool.

I try to use the original part whenever l can. Aftermarket caps will not affect the value in my opinion. 1930 hub caps were stainless steel and not chrome plated. Stainless doesn't rust. If they are rusty then they are aftermarket and not original. Most suppliers have new stainless replacements.

A and L have some really nice repo's that look almost original. Just put five of them on my 31 slant.

Stainless doesn't rust.

actually Sid, stainless does rust and eventually corrodes-a common misconception....
does stainless hold up better then chrome-yes!

Stainless there are different grades of stainless, the 300 series is non magnetic and will not rust. If it is a magnetic grade it may rust some.

IMHO - It all depends upon your car.

If I put new hubcaps on my 31 town sedan it would look horrible because everything else is original and dingy
It would be like having a green car and painting one door red.

When I get to the wheels, all I plan on doing to the hubcaps is to clean the dust off them
