I have a technical question concerning the oil pump/distributor drive gear. I am assembling a model "A" engine with an old original Riley Two Port head and using an old Harmon & Collins Riley grind cam. I spent a morning with Bill Stipe and we mapped the numbers for the cam and it seems it should be a really nice grind for the Riley. I inspected the cam and it did not appear to have any adverse wear althought when installing a new oil pump/dist. drive gear I noticed a slight amount play. Obviously a little wear on the cam. I know that they sell oversize gears and I was wondering if anyone has any experience using these. Perhaps I am waaaay overthinking this but it seems that if the gear is bigger,(although slight), the distributor would be spinning faster than normal, slightly. I am just wondering if I would be better off just compensating for the play in the new gear when setting timing than going with an oversize gear to try and get rid of any play. Just thinking about it and was curious if any others have had experience with the oversize gears or have any thoughts concerning the play.
Any input appreciated.

The number of teeth on the gear doesn't change, so the speed remains the same.

HMMMMM, I quess that is true. They would be just maching the teeth slightly wider to make up for the wear. Too many hours at work and not enough garage time!!! Appreciate the reply.
