Default Fuel bowl quirk?

Yesterday I replaced my original cast iron sediment bulb with a repro glass style bowl. I had tried 3 cast iron bowls, but all had a small 'weep', so decided to be safe. Every time I turned the gas on, the cast iron bowls filled right up and sent the gas to the carb.

When I turned on the gas with the new glass bowl....nothing. No gas flowed into the bowl. 'Oh great', I thought! I checked the fuel flow by disconnecting the line under the dash...plenty of flow there. Just as I was about to take the bowl off to check for blockage, I decided to loosen the glass to let air in. Was there a vacuum lock I pondered. Sure enough, gas came rushing in! I tightened that up, then cracked open the carb. line at both ends, and then 'shazam'... the whole thing worked!

If my original bulbs had no 'leaks', would they have been vacuum locked also?...or is there a difference between the nature of both styles?

Don’t know about the cast iron ones but yes the glass bowl can develop a vacuum lock. Just crack the adjusting nut a smidge and gas will flow.
