MAFCA's Mission Statement...
I think MAFCA needs to rethink and redo their "Mission" statement.
"The Model A Ford Club of America, Inc. (MAFCA) is a California non-profit corporation and a national historical society dedicated to the restoration and preservation of Model A Ford vehicles as manufactured from 1928 through 1931. MAFCA's members are dedicated to the restoration, preservation, and enjoyment of Ford vehicles of that era. MAFCA is the largest club in the world dedicated to one make of automobile." Since when does "as manufactured from 1928 through 1931" include mitchel overdrives, juice brakes, and whatever else that was not "manufactured from 1928 through 1931" on the Model A/AA Ford originally? Suggestion to MAFCA...revise the mission statement to conform to todays restorations and include the "AA"! Pluck Last edited by Steve Plucker; 10-01-2010 at 10:00 AM. |

Re: MAFCA's Mission Statement...
Mission ?
Preservation ? So how lenient is that club, seat belts, hydraulic disk brakes, tempered glass, radio, alarm system, g.p.s., today's fuel, the additive you choose. Mission, and is there a Mr. Speaker who can address the nation on what will be mandated, it's not a socialist movement, it's a favorite automobile and well respected for it's history in that it sold to so many and moved production to advance to where it is today. Nobody needs to tell you that you must join the club, draw your own standards or hey start a chapter of your own . And since model A Ford of America is a Non-Profit, do you write off what you contribute, in that sense every dime you put into it, the parts, fuel, insurance and your dues of membership. So then follow the rules, climb to the top, then decide the fate of others who only wish to enjoy a running hobby. And include the AA . Last edited by '29wagon; 10-01-2010 at 10:29 AM. Re: MAFCA's Mission Statement...
Pluck, you make an excellent point. But, what would happen to the advertising revenue stream if they refused ads that were contrary to the mission statement. Just asking.

I'm not sure what the problem, or even if a problem exists. The mission statement you provided is:

What difference does it make? |

Re: MAFCA's Mission Statement...
Hmm. . . I belong to the Art Institute of Chicago and they have a mission statement, too. So far I haven't been black-balled for my painting skills which are limited to an HVLP and Binks 15 detail gun.
I see no value in adopting either exclusionary membership policies or changes in the stated mission of any organization to accommodate the real-life possessions of those individuals. I cannot have a garage full of fine-point-only Model A's. Hopefully M.A.F.C.A. will not waiver because of my indiscretions. I also have a few nice paint-by-numbers hanging, but no works of the masters. Hopefully the Art Institute of Chicago will not waiver based on my shameful art, either. |

Further down it says you do not have to own or drive a Model A to be a member in good standing, therefore, you can drive a Toyota, BMW, Chevy, Yugo or I presume a modified Model A. I have never seen a post or heard a complaint that a member could not pursue that elusive goal of a Model A with NO modifications. How about a little "fair play" according to Article III section 2. :>) My chapter has had a few modifieds, hot rods and Shays through the years and they tend to fade away in a very short time. They were welcomed but we didn't fit their way of life and they chose to either leave or remain a member and not participate. Richard Anaheim CA |

Re: MAFCA's Mission Statement...
Richard, you are right on. First of all, what was quoted in the original thread is not MAFCA's mission statement at all (as identified in the by-laws) but something that the webmaster, Rick Black put on the MAFCA website which should be changed to read exactly as the by-laws state it.

What's wrong with aiming high? Do you agree and follow all the tenets of the political party you belong to or even your religion? Do you still consider yourself a party member of that party or a memebr of that religion?

Re: MAFCA's Mission Statement...
By the way here is the clubs "purpose" as stated in the bylaws;
The purpose association MAFCA shall be: SECTION 1. To serve as a medium of exchange of ideas, information and parts for admirers of the Model A Ford car, and to aid them in their efforts to restore and preserve the car in its original likeness. This Club will exercise general supervision, assistance, direction, and control, to its members in their restoration process. SECTION 2. To unite in a central organization all owners of Model A Fords who are interested in restoring and maintaining the automobile in a manner to attract prestige and respect within the community, and it shall further be the purpose of this Club to help these owners become better acquainted, encourage and maintain among its members the spirit of good fellowship, sociality, and fair play through the sponsored activities including the use of the Model A Ford and family participation.

Re: MAFCA's Mission Statement...
"Restore and preserve the car in it's original likeness" Not as easy as it sounds.

Hmmm not to me...if i read correct former, original, normal OR unimpaired..... I dont see anything that says fine point there or anything that says IE: Like it came of the assembly line.... So i dont agree the mission statement should be changed IMHO
