Sunday project-front spindle question
I'm working on my front axle/king pin assembly and I'm having a problem getting the Felt Washer and Cup to fit in-between the spindle and lower front axle. There is small space for these to fit in, but it's very tight and wondering if there is a certain way this is done with perhaps temporarily collapsing the Felt Washer someway, or some other trick that you with this experience have. Thanks for all those who may chime in to provide me some help with this matter.

Re: Sunday project-front spindle question
Many of those cups are too tall and will not fit. Bratton's is selling one that he claims is correct and will fit. $.65 each.

Re: Sunday project-front spindle question
I reused the old cup with the new felt.
Even then there was a trick... Hold the felt and cup washer against the bottom of the axle with one hand. Tilt the spindle towards you...outward, so the bottom just contacts the cup washer, then roll/tilt the spindle so the top slides over the axle... Wish I had taken pictures!

Re: Sunday project-front spindle question-FOUND A FIX

-I glued the Felt to the Cup -I greased the Felt -I clamped the Cup and Felt in-between two pieces of wood to compress the Felt. I left the pieced clamped together for a little while. -I removed the clamped components and was then able to inset the Cup and compressed Felt in-between the spindle and lower front axle. -I then tapered the bottom of an old King Pin and inserted it into the bottom of the axle to line up the Cup and Felt. -I drove my new King Pin into the top of the axle knocking out the old King Pin keeping the Cup and Felt alignment in place. -Now ready to do the other side. Re: Sunday project-front spindle question
I installed a new spindle in my Tudor (the old spindle nut threads were stripped). I employed a similar solution by using a deep socket which had an O.D. about the size of the spindle I.D. and inserted it from the bottom. Then I stacked the felt washer and cup, the the spindle; after pushing the spindle into place which is indicated when the socket can be slid through to the top spindle bushing, I then simply slid the kingpin in from the top. Worked like I knew what I was doing.

Re: Sunday project-front spindle question
Several times I have had to grind the edges down to fit so the edge has enough clearance, Don' want it contacting. Thinner sheet metal would have been batter.
