Default Sheet metal screwed to roof rails

I'm replacing the roof on a mid-30 Muurray Town Sedan. It had gal. sheet metal, hot tarred in place. After removing the gal. sheet metal and tar, it looks like the body sheet metal is held to the side roof rails with #6 or 8 flat head wood screws. Is that original or was it nailed?

Nailed originally.
