Default 40 Ford Convert Woods

I recently bought front and rear woods from Wesscott. The rear wood is notched along the length for what I'm guessing is for the rubber for stapling the top. My question is does the the notch face forward or to the rear of the vehicle. I have no references and Wescott doesn't know they just sell it.

Any help Guys
Thanks
Frank

Frank... photos please. I've done a number of convertible restorations but can't understand what you are referring to.

The top bows?

I've never heard them called "woods" so was confused.
Ken has already figured out what you were asking (He's much smarter than me) and has answered correctly.
There is no rubber fit to that relief in the bow.

What is the purpose of the relief and what would you staple the rear curtain to?

That relief has the rear curtain stapled to it as well as the "joint" of the top (proper) and top pads. The remaining seam is covered by a piece of Hidem.

Are you planning on installing a new top?

I've attached two photos of a '39 I'd installed a top upon. It should give you a better understanding of the process.

Yes I'll be putting a new top on but probably not until next spring I still have so much to do on the vehicle. I already have a rear glass window and frame for it.
I also need to know how high up from the beltline does the rear bow go?
Also there is no tacking strip in the relief on the rear bow?
Thanks for all the help.

No tack strip on the rear bow. You simply tack directly to the wood.
I'll try my best to check tonight for the dimension you desire.
