Default Cast iron drums

A friend of mine just tried to install the drums on his AR tudor and the conical dust cover on the adjusting wedge housings hit the sloped surface out board of the braking surface hard enough so that he could not get the front drum to go on far enough to get the cotter key in the axle nut. When he took it off he could see scrapings and paint on the drum. His temporary solution was to remove the dust cover and plug the hole with a modified freeze plug, Any ideas??

I'm having the same issue on my 28 Tudor. You will have to take the drum to a machinist and get them to turn a bit off the inside edge where it's hitting the dust cap. I've had to do it on my front right and now I'm getting it done on my rear right. My drums are from Randy (formerly Mel) Gross so there's lot's of "meat" on them according to the machinist !
I buggered up the front hub when swedging the original hub onto the drum as it was the first one tried for reinstalling the original hub . Therefore it had a slight wobble to it and I thought this was the cause you mention.
I still may have to take the front drum back to the machinist to take a bit more off as I can only finger tight the wheel nut before putting the cotter pin in but it is much better than before. It's still not as good as the left drum.

Just remember that A/R and B/R hubs and inner dust ring retainers don't mix.
Not sure what style hubs you are using
Maybe thickness issue with drums/backing plates

My hubs are the original AR hubs and the drums are supposed to be new AR Drums according to Randy Gross. The ones on the left though seem to be fine . The inner surface on my drum that is rubbing against the dust cover is flat as opposed to taper according to ed's post.If it's tapered it would be hard to turn perhaps.

With the left side drums fitting and the right side drums not fitting, I would suspect something wrong with the car as I doubt the 4 drums are of any significant difference. Try a left drum on the right side and see what happens.
