I have used both 5.25-5.50 X 17 Goodyear diamond treads and (currently) 6.00 X 16 Goodyear diamond-tread tires on my '34 pickup. They FIT the wheel well. I do release some air from the 16 inch tires but they still FIT the stock wheel well.

The problem with the current Firestone 5.25/5.50 x 17 1940s/50s tread design is that it is poor in dispersing water as there are no exits out the sides of the tread and for the same reason is lacking in traction when the brakes are applied or in acceleration.

My 33 has 5.25/5.5 x 17 Lesters on the front and they measure 27.5 outside diameter. The rears are Firestones same size and measure 28.25 o.d.

I have Firestones on my '34 pickup. Go Early Ford V8 Club of America web site and see a larger photo of my pickup in the photos of trucks.

David G ….. yes I have noticed the tread pattern of the Firestones and that's one the reasons I do not drive when the roads are wet, no matter what!!

Yep you have to be careful on roundabouts in the wet in the 33 .with firestones, its way more loose than our 28ccpu.
I,m in the process of getting a new set of tyres for the 33 so this post is interesting.
