Listing for items for sale
Along with the previous thread about when the last A was made, have you ever noticed that just because a part is old people think the part is worth a small fortune?
I mean ever seen ad like "Model A, Model T, Chevy,? from an estate sale. Not sure what it is or where it fits, $125.00." Also the latest seems to be the catchword Steampunk.

Re: Listing for items for sale
Yes, we have all seen those sorts of adverts. The seller can ask whatever he wants but in the end the buyer is the person who sets the price. What does surprise me is when a seller lists an item which does not sell and the seller refuses to lower his asking price and runs the advert in some instances for over a year. He is the dreamer. As always, prospective buyers need to do their homework before bidding.

Re: Listing for items for sale
What I find funniest are the ads where the seller increases the price after not selling it the first umpteen times. I seem to see this a lot on eBay...

Re: Listing for items for sale
I have done the price increase, people see a really low price and think it's junk, put a higher price on same item and it sells! Go figure.

Re: Listing for items for sale
There is an ad on eBay right now like that - it didn't sell at $30 and now it is listed at $33, plus a tremendous shipping charge of $17.46 for a little part that would ship for $3 or $4 anywhere in the USA, except maybe Alaska and Hawaii. I have no idea how he came up with the crazy shipping price. The seller saw my wanted ad on Fordbarn about two months ago and offered the thumb screw to me for $30 with free shipping. I tried to counter with a little lower price with two emails, but he never even responded - nice. He then listed it on eBay a month or so ago at $30 with the huge shipping price and of course no sale. Now he has it listed at $33 with the way overpriced shipping. I ended up purchasing two thumb screws that look like NOS for $31 including shipping and I probably still paid a little too much. I suspect he will have the thumb screw for quite some time, between the high price and the high shipping charge.

One of the most annoying things is the prodigious use of the acronyms 'NOS' and 'NORS'. People have no idea what they mean, but they add them to the ad title because they notice them on higher value items. Ever view an ad that says 'NOS' only to find out its aftermarket, or used...or even repop junk? |

Re: Listing for items for sale
NOS- New Old Stock. Typically reserved for period correct parts made by the original manufacturer (Ford in this case), and not used yet.
NORS- New Old Replacement Stock. Typically reserved for older parts made by aftermarket manufacturers (not Ford in this case), and not used yet. |

Re: Listing for items for sale
You can thank the mindless dribble of the 'American Picker's' type 'reality' shows for this.
That and the fake car 'restoration' shows have buried this hobby. Remember the song from the 60's show-----" They call him Flipper--Flipper- faster than light-ning, no one you see, is more shyster than he........" May we rest in piece (Hope it's NOS pieces!) |

Re: Listing for items for sale
And, just because it's old, they list it as: "Fits Model A" (nevermind it has no relationship to anything Ford.)

I see a lot of rusty stuff that is listed as NOS or NORS. If its rusty or caked with oil and dirt, it's used and it's not "New" Old Stock. It should be listed as OE (Original Equipment). A lot of things are also listed as "taken from a running car" which I assume mean it's supposed to works. I've seen a lot of stuff taken off of a "running car" because it doesn't work. or found in the garage in the box so it must be good. I have a bad habit of keeping old worn questionable things then putting it in the replacement part box...Like i have the alternator out of my blazer - bearings started making a growling noise but it charged fine - its in its replacements box on the shelf....why I keep it? I dunno still technically works...

The new word that has taken the world by storm...... Is there a relief in sight? Doubt it, it's here to stay, so the only way to combat it is research research research!!!! Know your 'dung' and believe and buy at your own risk if you don't.
