Help with Luggage rack
What am I missing in installing the luggage rack? I was under the impression that without the rear spare tire I didn’t need the extensions.

Re: Help with Luggage rack
The luggage rack uses the two blots in front of the bend in the bumper bracket.
Here is the luggage rack on my Victoria. Yours will bolt in the same position. The large cutout in the support bracket is specific to the Victoria.

Re: Help with Luggage rack
That is how I was thinking it went. But, The rack I have is to narrow between the brackets to go over the bumper bracket (31.25”).

I love the luggage rack on the back but worry about someone hitting in the rear which will damage the apron. This is a hard part to find. Ed |

Re: Help with Luggage rack
Well, now, I’m thinking the problem is with the crossbar brace. The car is a may 1930 town sedan and the brace is a three hole 1929.

Re: Help with Luggage rack
If you’re mounting a reproduction and it sags you may need to fab and install supports.

Re: Help with Luggage rack
I had to open up the bracket mounting holes when I installed mine. With the bolt through the drilled hole, the slot was off by about a 1/4 inch to short.

Re: Help with Luggage rack
I hate to admit it but I still am having problems figuring this deal out. The rear bumper assembly is turned upside down and the luggage rack is set on top of the rear bumper bracket and it’s the same width as the brackets. Shouldn’t the rack brackets be wider and bolt to the outside of the bumper brackets?

Re: Help with Luggage rack
Kingo- I have a '30 Fordor Blindback! I just measured outside to outside which is 29 3/4". I measured at the piece in your picture that goes straight from the end of the bumper to the cross piece. Not being an expert, BUT are you sure you have the correct cross piece installed?
Wish you luck with the project as I'm sure you are frustrated with it!

Re: Help with Luggage rack
My 30 TS is set up just like your and my reproduction luggage rack bolted right up. but I have a spare tire and ordered the extension. I can look closer when I home tonight.

Re: Help with Luggage rack
Is it possible that the mounting on the trunk rack goes outboard of the bumper brackets, and the rack swings down inboard of the bumperettes?

Re: Help with Luggage rack
The cross brace is the early 30 three hole style. Cape can you post a picture of yours. My town sedan does not have a rear spare tire.

Re: Help with Luggage rack
Well, I figured it out.
The 29 cross brace measure 29 7/8” over all The early three hole 3 month brace measures 29 3/4” The two hole 30 cross brace measures 29 1/4”. Using the two hole cross brace the luggage rack fits as it is supposed to. |
