Hydraulic Jack repair
I have a Hydraulic floor jack I bought from Snap On in the 80's, 2.5 ton. Can find no one to repair. We had a shop in town, but they will only work on dump trucks and tractors now. Any idea's not too far away from 50648 zip code, Jesup Iowa. I watched the online video's and looks like it's over my capability at this time.

Did you try adding more fluid yet?

Re: Hydraulic Jack repair
I've got one that's over 30 years old and it won't build up enough pressure to lift the car. I still have the original owners manual that came with it, was able to identify certain o-ring seals which could probably restore the pressure again, but parts are no longer available. Mine is a brand X model.
BUT, maybe you could try ereplacementparts.com or some place like that on the internet since you have a name-brand model. It's worth a try. |

Re: Hydraulic Jack repair
Thanks for the ideas, oil just gushes out with every pump. I did find a reseal kit and watched a tube video of it being done. My shoulders and arms just can't handle it anymore. My next step is to try and run down the snap on dealer and see what they suggest. They don't seem to have set routes anymore.

Re: Hydraulic Jack repair
I still have an old Parker seal catalog that lists the multitude of 0-ring sizes and materials that are made for service. I end up using aerospace part numbers to find what I need.
If the problem is in the pump mechanism or the check valve, then that would be accessible on many jacks where it can be partially disassembled to replace leaky seals or packings. A lot of the bottle type actuators are welded so there is no way to open them up and replace the pressure seals for the actual jack piston. If it can be taken apart then hydraulic ram seals are also made in a multitude of sizes for service. |
