separate hood pieces are available thru dealers, and good used hoods can be found at swap meets, repairing the hinges on the thin sheet metal rarely comes out good, and most of those problems are caused by a bent or rusty hood rod, buy a new one

Repro hoods don't always fit right. Try to find a good original. Bert's in Denver sometimes has some.

Yes: The first thing to do is to find out why it cracked along the hood line. It's usually due to the hinge seizing up. Go with a Stainless rod and lub. Grind the metal along the split to clean it up. Both sides and put the rod in to hold the broken part into place. make sure the piece is in the right place front to back and then weld the ends of the split to make sure it's aligned properly. How fit this panel to the other half and see how good your alignment is. If everything is good then you can weld it up. TIG is Good, Mig and Oxy/acety. is more critical with the heat. I just welded up a bunch of splits in a 30 hood I'm fixing. Used the MIG and it worked well.

Hope this helps: J. Poole "The Old Tinbasher"
