Default Rear Main Bearing Seal

I'm seeing/hearing different thoughts on this. Does the rear main bearing cap need any type of sealant on it when assembling it? I have installed it and put the cotter pins in, but could still take it back out if absolutely necessary.

****I realize I didn't phrase that right. What I meant was do I need to seal the rear main bearing cap to the block with any sealant? ****

No sealant between the cap and the block but it pays to put some under the heads of the bolts. Also put a dab of silicone in the corners at the ends of the sump gasket. That is a leak prone spot.
