Default Fuses

I have been looking at the wiring diagram for my 1929 coupe. I think I would like to isolate the different components with fuses so if a tail light shorts out it will not burn out the 30amp fuse I have mounted on top of the starter. Anyone tried this out with success? What kind of fuse used, inline or the new u shaped ones, and where was the best place to locate them.

I used Bratton's A Panel for fuses.

There are a couple of threads on the subject that, of course, I can't find right now.

Anyway, yes I have a fuse panel that is mounted on the inside of the firewall behind the junction box, hidden out of view. I use the blade type fuses. One of the reasons I like this panel is because if a fuse blows a small LED lights next to it so I can see which one blew.

I also have a 20amp circuit breaker of my headlights.

Be sure to fuse you brake light circuit. That one is messy to fix on the road. Right under the middle of the car.

Flyboy1st, your 30a fuse reference caught my eye. I would suggest caution with using fuses rated above the current rating of the wire it is supposed to protect. I just spent a couple of hours today fixing my (new to me) '30 coupe. Previous owner had 30a fuse installed and when there was a short in a headlamp conduit connector, it burned the supply wire, connector, and pigtail inside the housing before blowing the fuse. I haven't seen any wiring on my car that should have more than a 20a fuse. Cheers
