Default Distance between shock balls on rear axle

Hello guys (and girls),

I'm currently manufacturing new mounts for the shock balls on the rear axle because one of the previous owners probably thought that shocks were overrated.
Werner already sent me the measurements of the mount itself, so that's taken care of.
But to make sure that the mounts are welded in the right spot I still need the distance between the two shock balls. (only thought of that AFTER I asked Werner)
Does someone know the distance that's supposed to be between the two rear axle shock balls? The ones on the axle, not the ones on the shock arms.
If not, can someone measure that distance?

From the pictures of the shock arms, it doesn't seem that they're the same distance apart. Seems to me that the front arms are slightly bent towards the middle of the car whereas the rear ones are straight.

It would suck if I had the mounts welded to the axle and a complete shock set ordered just to realize that I can't assemble everything beacuse the distance is wrong.

Thanks and have a nice day,

Daniel

Hi,

in case someone doesn't understand what I'm asking for, here's a small sketch I just painted.
Alternatively, it would be fine if someone could measure the offset of the front shock arms. I guess the rear ones are straight?
Then I could measure/calculate it myself.

Thanks,

Daniel

I came up with 47" centre to centre, 21-1/2'' From the centre of the ball to the outside face of the axle housing and 4"for the overall width of the of the centre section.

Hello katy,

thanks a lot for measuring the axle. The 47" seem right, my spring shackle bushings are around 125 cm ~ 49.2 " apart so that would be about right if I substract the length of the shock balls.
What did you mean with "21-1/2'' From the centre of the ball to the outside face of the axle housing" and "4"for the overall width of the of the centre section"?

I'd guess that 21-1/2 " is the distance from the diff-side end of the axle trumpet to the shock ball? And 4" the height over the axle housing?

Thanks and have a nice day,

Daniel

I didn't measure, just eyeballed and the front shock arms look to have about a 1" offset and the rears about 1/8" offset.
