Default gasket question

is there supposed to be a gasket between the front of the bell housing and the back of the engine? or maybe just permatex?

This goes between the flywheel housing and the engine.

Don't forget the U-shaped flywheel housing shims, between flywheel housing and block, to balance this gasket thickness out. See "How to Restore Your Model A," Vol. 4, pg. 10.

Be sure to install the gasket with the round area over the camshaft. It doesn't work very well when installed the opposite way. It will leak like a sieve. I believe that is why many use the permatex instead of the gasket.

My old engine didn't have anything in there...leaked a 4" puddle every time you stopped...

I used both a gasket and some permatex....
