Winfield grind on camshaft.
Hello.
I`m building a G28T (german model B engine with full oil pressuring) The spec is 0.30 over, 1.7 intake valves, ported intake, lightened flywheel, winfield aluminium head, 7:1 compression. Planing a single 94 Ford/holley on an Ansen intake. I have the choice of a Winfield 1r or a Winfield 1a camshaft. The engine is going in a lightweight speedster. The use of the car wil mostly be driving on the streets. So the question is who of these camshaft to use? Will the 1a be to radical for road use? |

Re: Winfield grind on camshaft.
I’m running an SU 1, and I like it. Will cow hop at idle in first. Not a parade car.

Re: Winfield grind on camshaft.
The 1R is quite mild, a good touring cam although many restorers think it idles too unlike a stock cam, it was a track grind when new but times have changed. The 1A is a lot more radical, idles lumpy, looses a little power at lower RPM's but more than makes up for it on the top end. It was popular for dry-lakes racing back in the day. I run the 1A in my speedster and like it, you just have to drive it a little differently. I dynoed my speedster with the 1R and peak HP was at 3900. That was with three 81 carbs and stock size valves. Haven't dynoed the 1A but suspect its peak would be near 5,000?

1A is 285° .362 lift 1R is 266° .350 lift more duration means less low end power usually IMHO, if driven on street go smaller, easier to drive John

Re: Winfield grind on camshaft.
Thanks for good comments. Think I'll try the 1a and see how it works.

Re: Winfield grind on camshaft.
A far better choice would be a 1007B.
Short duration, HIGH rate of lift. More torque at low rpm. |
