Reverse flow CRAGAR Model A engine- 4 intakes - two exhaust
CDR - Continental Divide Raceway
1960 Salter and Hill 104 at 12.19 seconds 5300 RPM I have not seen Butch at coffee for sometime ... But then I do not attend all of the old car meetings! I am not sure if this engine is related to the one that Bill Kenz built but here it is: Last edited by Benson; 07-31-2015 at 09:13 PM. |

Pretty engine indeed. The oil pan kinda has the look of a polished G28 aluminum pan.
Funny thing about this picture for me is Vic Hill builds my son's race engines. Vic is known for building mega-power too. I doubt it is the same 'Vic Hill' though but maybe the name is synonymous with Hp & Speed!! |

Cool cars ... I bet the gas mileage suffers when going sideways with the rear wheels spinning?? Reminds me of motorcycle dirt track racing.
A good movie is the Steve McQueen sponsored "On Any Sunday". Vic Hill died ... not sure when but I could find out. I googled his name and not much was found ... maybe he was in the "witness protection program" with me. Or maybe I have not found the correct words to match a hit on Google. Butch is still around and kicking ... CDR operated from 1959 to about 1981. They had a drag track and a road racing track also. The big boys frequented the track. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhhUH7_NO4s When you look at the speed and E/T remember that CDR was at about 6300 feet where the air is somewhat thinner than at sea level. That's keen stuff.
I met Butch at Bonneville several years ago. Very interesting to talk to. |

It is in CO, saw it run in Lincoln NE at the Speedster Reunion in June, I don't think it has Winfields on it now?

Vicky, that could very well be Bill Kenz engine.
Butch has a coolant cap that Bill machined on his Bonneville car. Butch Salter is still alive & kicking indeed! I am proud to call him a good friend. I have been on his Bonneville team since 2009 when he introduced his current car! On his business card it says "Never Too Old To Have A Happy Childhood" Here is his Model A Coupster @ Great Bend KS in 1957, same motor in his dragster @ C.D.R. (this could be at Scots Bluff NE) and his Bonneville car. Last edited by Not George; 08-05-2015 at 05:45 PM. |
