Wind Wing Mounting
I have 28/29 Model A wind wings on my 27 Model T Touring car. The passenger side glass fell out and broke on a recent tour. I bought new glass from Snyder’s. I would like recommendations for the kind of glue(s) to use:
1) Between rubber gaskets and metal clamps 2) Between the rubber gaskets and the glass itself Thanks in advance, Robert |

Re: Wind Wing Mounting
When I was driving my 28 roadster, I used hobby shop super glue on my wind wings.

Re: Wind Wing Mounting
I found problems with the re-pop open car wind wing brackets not holding the glass properly. In each case, I had to replace the China made fasteners with USA made fasteners, and then they held the glass fine. Check it out. The screws bottomed out well before the glass is pinched tight enough to be held properly. I found most any glue would do the job as long as the glass was pinched tight enough. Same problem with both our '28 Roadster and with our '30 Phaeton.

Re: Wind Wing Mounting
I didn't use glue in either place. Didn't know we were supposed to! Just the pressure from the fasteners has worked okay now for seven or eight years. But I don't rack up a lot of miles, and might just have been lucky so far. At the very least, this reminds me to check the fasteners for tightness.

Re: Wind Wing Mounting
I think that my problem is that the brackets on the car are some old repros and their quality leaves a lot to be desired. I got the car in 1988 and it had these brackets and wind wings on it. I lost one wind wing some years ago and this one two weeks ago. I’m told by the vendor that the ones they are now selling are made in Taiwan and that no USA made ones are available but that their quality is good so I’m going to opt for that.
Thanks to all, Robert |

Re: Wind Wing Mounting
I've also lost wind wings and then replaced them with plastic ones instead of glass. They weight half as much and most people think they're glass.

Re: Wind Wing Mounting
I nearly lost the glass out of a wind wing years ago so I had perspex ones made. They weigh a fraction of the glass ones and stay put. After all these years, they are starting to look a little "used" because of a mass on tiny scratches.
