It's a Chevy distributor with an 8BA distributor drive gear on end of shaft.

I have used a dual point dist on a 53 Ford. Two suggestions: Sticking valves - try MMO down carb Venturi and two dist cap cracked or contains moisture. I have experienced all of these conditions - result is rough engine.

I had a similar problem with my 8BA (Max1,390 Holley). After checking with Mallory tech support I was told to use their promaster E-Coil (30440) even though the mallory web site showed another unit. Mallory told me the 50227502 electronic distrubutor was breaking down my coil. I bought the promaster and the problem disappeared. Pulls strong to 5000 without a misfire

Very interesting, I used the Mallory E-coil you speak of and the engine ran great on the test stand but the E-coil fried the module in my Mallory distributor; Bubba replaced the module, sent correct coil; when I put the engine in the car with the supposed correct coil 29219 the engine will not run smoothly. I really want this Mallory to work so I can establish a baseline to compare to the modified Chevy disturb. with vacuum advance and MSD box. Ol' Ron, Richard in Florida and Joe Passolaqua did the work on the distributor for me. It's a "thing of beauty" and am tempted to install it before getting my baseline out of pure frustration.
