Default bent front axle

I have a 31 tudor with a bent front axle. Anybody here know a good frame shop around the Rockford Il. or Madison Wi. area to fix it? thanks

A friend of mine is a machinist and he was able to straighten out a few axles I had. See if a local machine shop can help you out. A 50 ton press can do a lot in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing. We made a set of rod's that go in the holes so we could see when the axle is correct. I don't remember who posted how to make the rods.

You might contact Ken Ehrenhofer in Woodstock. He can't be too far from you. Ken has straightened front axles and has the press to do it.

Chris: You are welcome to come out and work it back straight with a 20 ton jack, wood blocks, under a very heavy tractor drawbar. I straightened a badly bent Model A frame perfectly a few years ago doing this. Might also work on your front axle. Call me and I will explain. mike

With my front axle disassembled, I was easily able to remove a bend with a 12-ton (HF-grade) press. See this page for some photos and an explanation of how I checked the alignment: http://31ford.dougbraun.com/suspension_work

Chris: Just thought of something else. You will need to press out the spring perches and remove the wishbone before any straightening operation. The wishbone will be in the way. Ed makes a very good point about using straight rods in the kingpin holes. They will indicate if any twisting has occurred. That will affect steering more than anything.
