Re: Depth of threads for ratchet nut?
Wanted to close this discussion out for the benefit of future readers. I purchased a 1-1/4" bolt and was able to turn it all the way down into the bore on the crankshaft, so that thread depth is indeed the full 1-1/4". I took the bolt out and re-installed the outer pulley piece, with a light coat of synthetic grease around the I.D. and on the face that would contact the washer. I then installed the bolt with a hardened washer. I'm now able to use a 24" breaker bar and a cheap 15/16" socket from AutoZone to turn the engine in either direction. Very happy with the outcome.

Re: Depth of threads for ratchet nut?
How were you able to tighten the bolt (stopping the motor from turning) and did you torque it or by feel?

My torque wrench only goes to 85, so I took it up to the max there and then used the breaker bar to go a bit further. With anti-seize on the threads, that should be plenty. |
