Intake manifold gasket
I'll be reinstalling the intake manifold in a few days and want to know if I should put the gasket on dry or coat it with something like copper spray or blue permatex or ??? It took over two hours to scrape, flat sand and check the manifold and block for straightness. It looks good but if I have to take it off again, maybe dressing it would help both with sealing it and the eventual future removal?
Thanks, Hunt |

Re: Intake manifold gasket
Coat both side of the gasket with grease, you can usually remove the intake 2-3-4- times. Walt

Re: Intake manifold gasket
Got it, makes sense. I should have remembered since I've done that before. Same for the carb and fuel pump?

Re: Intake manifold gasket
Yes. very small amount of grease on carb gaskets in manifold one, just enough to discolour them. I must admit I used Permatex non hardening for the fuel pump and stand.. not a leak.

Re: Intake manifold gasket
I use a standard chassis lube type grease on my intake and other engine gaskets. I learned my lesson some time ago (probably after reading some of Walt's and Ol Ron's posts) on the difficulties of removing old gaskets that had had various types of sealer applied to both sides of composition head and intake gaskets. What a messy time consuming job that stuff makes when it comes to replacing a gasket.

Re: Intake manifold gasket
As I said use rubber then you don't need to ,but don't over tighten or you'll crack the casting ,.Ted
