Default Running board prep

Ok so I need to replace the mats on my running boards. This will unfortunately be done on car so I need to see if I have the step correct.

1) put paper up around painted surfaces
2) remove rust to bare metal
3) prep metal and then use a primer on it
4) paint with either flat or gloss black
5) use gorilla glue
6) attach new mats and trim

Have I left anything off?

Mike

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the running board trim be removed in order to install the rubber mat that fits under the edge of the trim? That would require taking the boards off the car.

All I did was remove the front and rear bolts and unbent the long piece and I was able to remove it. But I have 60’s repo trim on the car so it may be different than the correct stuff.
