Default D Nuts I think

Hi all,
It has been a while since I was here or working on my 34 pickup. Health issues behind me, and moving forward. I am replacing the sheet metal channel that runs across the bed under the tail gate. It is riveted in place for the most part, but has some interesting fasteners in three places. I will call them D Nuts because the hole is D shaped and they appear to snap in place. The threaded part is 1/4-20. I looked at Roy Nacewicz's catalog but found no joy. Anyone know what they are called and where to get some? Thanks, Al K.

Like you, we call them "D nuts". Give Roy a call and talk to him about them.

Would something like this work?
https://www.grainger.com/product/GRA...d-Rivet-32FY59

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/a...RoC2ngQAvD_BwE

https://www.fastenal.com/products/fa...%20Nuts%22%7C~

Look through his page for rivet nuts and nutserts.

This Google page shows "D Nuts" like you have.

D-nuts a common on Model A cars & trucks and several different sizes are available. You can look at this but others carry them too. http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/d-nuts. Some folks pound them in and others weld them.

Thank you 19fordy and rotorwrench. That does look like them. It appears that once the nut is inserted, some flaring tool is used to capture the nut in place. I saw the pictures on google after your link, and did find Snyder and the Model A stuff. I emailed Roy with pictures so I hope for the best. Does anyone know for sure how to insert and fasten them in place? Thanks,

They have the flat on the one side to key them from rotating and they fit a key hole that is relatively close tolerance on fit so the edges just have to be peened down to lock them in the key hole made for them. A couple of tack welds would insure they don't move though. Ford used these in that era but moved away from them in later years.

Turns out that Roy Nacewicz has them. I was just looking in the wrong place. We move forward.
