Default Ran when parked

A old friend and fellow car guy from Maine sent these to me yesterday. A friend of his was diving in a lake there and took these photos. I suspect it might have been out on the ice a little too long and broke through. Not the first time this would have happened.

Looks like a 1928 wire wheel AA.
Someone already salvaged the doors.
I wonder what it might cost for someone to bring it up?

I wonder why there is no algae growth on the dash panel? Did they make a nickle brass for the oval speedometers?

That is way too cool. A body of water south of Jackson called Vandercook Lake has several cars on the bottom from when they fell through some thin ice sometime in the 1930's. The lake is pretty big and deep, so it would be a needle in a haystack, but divers have run across them from time to time.

It looks like a 28 or 29, but the radiator and gas caps look like stainless steel.

Thank God it wasn't a Studebaker.

I'd grab the light cover from the instrument panel.

They pulled a Bugatti from a lake in Switzerland back in 2009 and after cleaning it up, squirting a little WD-40 on the mechanicals, it was sold at auction in Paris for around $370,000!

....so that Model A in the lake in Maine might be worth salvaging......just saying....

My father in law from Michigan, said they used to push an old car on a frozen lake, and then take bets on when it would fall thru. Closet to the day won all of the money.

My Dad was a captain on the Great Lakes ore freighters. Back in the early 50's they were up bound to Duluth, light (no cargo). They stopped and put on 150 Packards for Minnesota. These cars were set on the deck and since the weather in the southern lakes was fair they just set the parking brakes. Well, when they got on Lake Superior the weather turned rough and going into Duluth they started to roll. They lost 37 brand new Packards overboard that afternoon. As far as anyone knows they're still down there. I don't know whose insurance paid for that one, but I'll bet it was a big claim.

Now that would be a cool display for the Model A museum. Display it under water in a big aquarium.

If I had found it I would probably do something stupid, like get one of those life size halloween skeletons and wire it in the front seat with both hands on the wheel. In the mid 70's I sold a PV 544 Volvo to a friend who used it for ice racing. After he raced, rolled, crashed, and burned it he was a little slow getting it back off the pond.It is still there. As Fred said, the camp owners around the pond had a pool going for the date it would drop through.
