Ford Script Battery
Has anyone managed to fit a modern hi-capacity small 6v battery into the Script battery original case and using the original top covering the conversion so everything looks original. I have heard rumours that it is possible but nothing specific.

Re: Ford Script Battery
It can be done. I have a 33 Victoria with one in it. The top comes off and the modern battery sets down inside. I bought the car with it already installed.

Re: Ford Script Battery
I have seen an article on how to modify a group 24 battery to hide an AGM battery inside. I can't locate the article now but the battery posts were drilled and tapped to accept a bolt using short cables from the new battery. The old case was drained and the bottom cut out and gutted (safety first). If I can find the article later I will post a link.

Why retrofit the Script battery with another battery? Just rebuild your Script battery. If you need a little "inspiration", watch this video linked below and you will understand the basics! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEvPjOKkPyE |

Re: Ford Script Battery
Very interesting video posted by Brent Terry about re-manufacturing batteries. This is my experience from the early 60's at National Lead Company in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. I was working in the paint production department. They had a "Battery Breaker" that they activated after dark. It was a 100 ft plus tall escalator that they loaded with batteries a few at a time at the bottom and they dropped off the top. The cases broke open and the acid spilled out on the ground. Ultimately it flowed out to the local water (Kill Van Kull I think) and ultimately into the Hudson River. The rubber and plastic cases were loaded up by bucket equipment and taken to a building where they were smelted and the lead recovered. This was done only at night. The fumes were incredible and mostly the wind blew them over Staten Island. This plant was located next to the Hess Oil Refinery. This was my first experience with industrial pollution at this scale. I did not last long at National Lead. They made "Dutch Boy" Paint which by the way was rated tops by Consumer Reports.

Re: Ford Script Battery
Hey Kevin,
Where do you find good 6-volt Model A batteries in NZ? I can only find deep-cycle batteries (Repco). |
