Model A Town Cars?
Hi All. Thanks for letting me join the group.
My father recently passed away and most of his cars I know quite a lot about. We have always been a Model A family. ,31 woody, '31 Cabriolet, '30 dump truck, a '30 roadster, a couple Jitterbugs, and all the other pieces-parts clutter that seems to fill the buildings. His most prized Model A was(is) his 1929 Town Car. My sister and I are going through his estate. I haven't run across any of the info on the car yet so I'm reaching out to you for help. I know there used to be a Town Car group that he kept in touch with other TC owners through. There was a friend Bob...someone in California that I know has passed away that was big on the TC's and was a go to guy. He and dad corresponded a lot over the years. I know the history of this car as dad bought it from the original owner, the Actor John Drew Devereaux in the late 1960's. It was used summers in Maine on Lake Wesserunsett where Lakewood Summer Theater is located. My question is, is there anyone still keeping up contact with these cars? Is there a Town Car group? Do we know where the 12-20 remaining cars are? Any help is appreciated. We plan to hang on to the car for now with the hope of getting it out and to some shows. Best regards, Rick Watson, Skowhegan, Maine. Last edited by 1929Towncar; 01-20-2021 at 01:11 PM. Reason: mis spelled words |

Re: Model A Town Cars?
Welcome to Ford Barn! The Town Cars were the top Model A's of the era. Many of its parts were only used on these cars. If you can post some photos. We would live to see it.

Bob Johnson from CA is alive and well.
I think you referring to Bob Johnson from Framingham, MA who sold literature and had a Model A Collection. . |

Re: Model A Town Cars?
Ahh, the East Coast Bob Johnson has passed but the West Coast version is still with us. I bet he is very very pleased to know that !
Like I said, trying to find out what I can about the Town Cars. I found an envelope with Ca. Bob Johnson on it and when I searched the East Coast one must have shown up. Condolences to the family and friends of East and congrats to West. |

Re: Model A Town Cars?
Not to hijack the thread, but I have often wondered how the folks who rode in comfort in the back would get heat. The manifold heater would seemingly only heat the driver's compartment.

Re: Model A Town Cars?
Heaters could be had that were routed to the rear floorboards.

Re: Model A Town Cars?
Below is an excerpt from Vol 31 Issue 6 of The Restorer. Dan Is no longer the owner of the car. Heaters were installed in at least one Town Car.
Bob Johnson DAN DAVIS of Reno, Nevada is the present owner of Esther Larson's other Town Car from the 1967 article — a 1929 model. It was purchased in April 1982. Much of the history of this car was reported in The Restorer, Vol. 3, Issue 5 Jan-Feb 1959). It is story of a car which the original dealer could not sell and used as a limousine for hire for a few seasons before the dealer put it away in more or less permanent storage. The dealer had even installed a heater in the rear compartment that was electrically blown; no doubt an advantage in the winter weather of Portland, Maine. It was discovered in storage by Frank Beard, who purchased it for his wife Althea. They lived in Cape Porpoise, Maine and Mrs. Beard was one of the original lady members of the Town Car Society. Mrs. Larson purchased the car in 1962, making her the only member to own two Town Cars simultaneously. Dan Davis may have made some modifications to this car, but it is one of the few in almost completely original condition. |
