Re: Starting New Car
Ok, taking a closer look. This is a Tillotson carb, correct? Raised letters on back on bowl facing engine "MADE IN USA".

Re: Starting New Car
I believe that is a Tillotson carburetor.
Some people here love them, some hate them. |

Thats a nice clean looking Tillotson. They are good carburetors, but, have a tendency toward warpage. The main warp is the mounting flange. Its easy to check, remove it and lay a straight edge across the flange. If warped it can be filed straight [ sometimes the throttle plate needs to be removed]. These generally need the GAV to be open a bit more than Zeniths. |

Re: Starting New Car
Update. The mounting flange on the carburetor was warped some. I spent some time and filed it flat. Took the carburetor apart and cleaned much goo out. Also drained the gas tank and filled with fresh gas. Success. The engine now runs without playing the choke. Just the start of a long process of going over this car. Thanks!
I have introduced myself to a neighbor with quite an antique car collection. He was a huge help in above and I look forward to having him give this coupe a trial run after I work out some more bugs. Jerry |
