1920s body fabrication: Auburn Company
this is a 1920s advertising film depicting assembly of Auburn cars. Though not Ford-related I think the clip is interesting in that it seems that body
fabrication was accomplished with relatively simple processes. https://youtu.be/pEOw6n1OOh8 |

Re: 1920s body fabrication: Auburn Company
A very interesting film, thanks for posting it. I reviewed it on my ipad and most of it was too dark to see well...will look at on our desktop to see if it is better.
My, we have come a long way in manufacturing and safety. Many of the assembly methods were primitive and dangerous and extremely manual labor intensive.....OSHA would shut it down in minutes. Can't believe some operations showed spray painting frames right on the assembly line with no enclosures or masks on the operators. Also, little safety mechanisms on the sheet metal press operations. Did they really test every engine, then tear each one down for inspection and wear? Hard to believe. All in all, a nice look back into the history of our auto industry. Glen
