Re: Early 28 phaetons
It may be just me, but it looks like another rear panel [s] has been grafted on ? Looks like the back of a Tudor. A photo of where the rear doors meet would help.

Re: Early 28 phaetons
These are pictures which were sent to me,I'll see it in person in a week or so. It's an early phaeton,e brake on left, doors look same as my other one, just the beltline looks different. Really don't think someone's butchered this in there.

Re: Early 28 phaetons
That rear body tub has been grafted off of something else. Look at the tabs around the perimeter that would have likely been used to attach the metal to the wooden substructure, and then look at the height difference between the rear doors and the rear tub. And yeah, that hood is funky too...

Re: Early 28 phaetons
The bumper clamps and radiator badge show that this is a Canadian build. How much was different than a U.S. build?
Were the Canadian cars meant for Austrailia different from the ones that stayed in Canada? |

The confusion concerning Australia is that they used Canadian chassis but sometimes altered the bodies because that was their side of ''Manufacturing''. They basically offered a limited range of models to suit the Australian market & added a lot of ''local content'' to satisfy the govt. import regulations. Looking at it another way, Australia along with Canada & Britain, were the only ones doing manufacturing during the Model A era. All the Canadian Model A's that went to other British dominions in that era were completely Canadian, except the usual commercial chassis which in all markets were finished for local requirements as was usual in that era. As noted, that radiator badge on the car in question appears to be '29-'30 Canadian. |

Re: Early 28 phaetons
Those tabs look like the rear tub came off of a Fordor. Looks just like the back of 29 leatherback.

Re: Early 28 phaetons
A picture or two of the insides of the quarterpanels would be nice. I suspect roblesterjr04 might be correct in that is has a fordor quarterpanel grafted to the front of a phaeton. I have a 29 phaeton, still without upholstery, that I could compare the inside of the quarterpanels to my phaeton, if pictures were posted of the inside of the quarterpanels.

Re: Early 28 phaetons
Well,....it is interesting !
1. Canadian,...I think so.. 2. Very early front bumper, round spindles.. 3. Fordor,...could be.. 4. The hood could be a Chevy... 5. Were the windshield stanchions bolt too looks squared off like the VE open cars, but the "dash rail" looks tall like a sedan... 6. No tab on the top of the belt rail for the "top" and no hole in the side of the quarter.. |

Re: Early 28 phaetons
The rear belt line on the US. Leatherbacks from the rear door pillar wraps around the back with only the narrow lower edge of the Wide upper and narrow lower Briggs designed belt line. The hoods also have the narrow rib similar to the 30-31 styling. Both wide and the narrow parts of the belt are a rounded shape in cross section and not a raised flat wide belt as seen here at the rear of the "tub". Really don't know about Canadian builds.
