Default Look at this bendix

I rebuilt my starter and noticed that the bendix I had was cracked. Not noticing the differences I grabbed a box of bendix pieces I had and assembled a complete unit. I installed the starter and hooked it up and hit the starter button and all I heard was a Whirrrrr. Didn't engage. I pulled it out this afternoon and cleaned it. I then got another bendix out of the box to compare. That's when I noticed..... The one I had put on the car has made to turn in the opposite direction. Lesson learned!!!!!!!!!

I think we've had a similar discussion regarding the turn of the springs too.

The top one (not mounted) is the correct one.

Also pay attention to the direction the spring is wound. They come both ways also, and you want the turning torque to be in the direction that will tend to pull the spring to a SMALLER diameter. The spring will be wound in the same direction as the threads for a LEFT HAND THREAD on a bolt.

Reinstalled the starter. Started just fine. Amazing what the right part will do!
