Default Correct location and Colour of V8 Badge on 1934 Fords

Cover - American 1934 Ford Sales Brochure showing the Grille and location of the V8 Badge. In this illustration, it seems that the V8 is located a little higher than it should be on the actual cars? Can anyone advise what is the correct distance from the top of the Grille to the top of the Badge?

The V8 Badge on this 1934 Ford is obviously located way to low and has the incorrect colour of Red. I believe that the original Badges had a Blue background. Will be interested in getting the correct measurements for where this V8 Badge was located originally. Thanks for your help.

Trevor,

That sales brochure illustration is actually representative of the original location of the V8 emblem on U.S. '34s. I looked at twenty or so photos from Ford's archives and they all are consistent with that in the illustration. It appears to be located about two inches below the top of the center grille bars. The background color was Harding blue, the same as the blue used on the hubcaps.

Unfortunately the resolution of the archives photos is well above the limit of that permitted on this site so I'll send a representative photo to you via email.

As an aside, from the same source, the location of the '33 V8 emblem was the same. The background color was black.

1935GermanGNM#.jpgIt would be interesting to know IF Ford of Europe used the "RED" V8 badge as Trevor has posted as they obviously used the "RED" Ford grill emblem as well as "Other" "RED" Ford accoutrements (As pictured). Perhaps Sheldon has seen or has proof of the "possible" existence and will chime in?

Mercman, The photo I've attached is the 34 coupe I'd found a few years back. It had been sitting in one spot since 1949.
I am fairly confident the grille and (blue) emblem were authentic to the car.

That is one sweet coupe. Would love to have and drive as it sat!!!! Reminds me of this one I saw in Utah in 2005 that was "rat holed" away in a garage. Either one I'd love to have to drive!!!

Yep, she's a sweetie indeed. I did rebuild the driveline from one end to the other to make this car very roadworthy. Amazingly, when I got this car, the tires (tubes) held air. When I removed the tires from the rims, they quite literally cracked and fell to pieces.

As I recall the space at the top of the badge should be 1 and a half inches.

This is the Factory Photo of a 1934 Ford Station Wagon that David sent to me. It shows the correct location of the V8 Badge on the Grille. Thanks David.

Here is a picture of my two 1934 Ford Phaetons, showing where I have mounted the V8 Badges on the Grilles. I think that they are mounted pretty close to where Henry placed them?

WELL, here it "pops" up again??? Was looking in the "SWAP MEET" section and saw an ad for a 34 Grill for sale so I figured I would check it out and low and behold ANOTHER "red" V8 Emblem, this looking more like it was an "originally" red one?????

I went out and measured the V8 Badge on my '34 and it is exactly 1 inch below the top of the center grille bar >

I have studied many factory photos and owned several 1934 Ford cars and about 10 grilles over time and my observation is that the top of the badge is one inch down from the very top of the center bar. You can compare the height of the Ford oval badge itself which is about the same distance from the center bar top to the top of the V8 badge. Having said that it seems that nearly every 34 Ford around today has the badge located in the incorrect position for some strange reason. Also of note not all 34 Ford grilles are the same as far as the stamping goes with small variations on the side panels at least. Therefore I assume there were different sets of dies used by various manufacturers. I do believe also that Ford Motor Co also made them because if you take a look at the Ford film of the period called "RHAPSODY IN STEEL" a grille is shown being pressed in the dies of a large press which appears to be at a Ford Factory (The Rouge ? ). All very interesting to study. Of course reproductions were made in Argentina , Australia and by Vintique and Bob Drake and maybe some others. I dont count the fiberglass or plastic ones as being the real deal. More comments and opinions please. Regards, Kevin.
