A little California-centric, but I had the same complaint about Hot Rod Magazine, and kept my subscription for at least ten years. Back East the hot rod story started with boot leggers and ended up as Modified Sportsman racing on short dirt tracks. Also great fun! The sound, the smell, the fights in the pits!

Good photography but as usual with the movies, they choose to either ignore or distort the historical facts.
Long before there was a street roadster class at Bonneville, there were street driven roadsters turning over 160.

In February 1052, I arrived in San Diego CA US Naval training center. Saw my first Hot Rods. I was amazed, and the sound!! Well I guess I was addicted to them. I don't think there is a cure. Hope noy!!

Growing up in the 1950's, the neighbor boys always had several hot rod projects going at any one time. Old cars were towed home on the end of a rope, the torches and hammers came out, and amazing things emerged. They set up a machine shop in the basement of the house and parts went back and forth through an open window. Mom called it "gasoline alley" or "the devil's workshop" and held out the operation as a bad example, something we should definitely avoid. Nevertheless, we were drawn to it like moths to a flame.

Sea side park in Bridgeport ct was our street thack, Waldermer AVe drags, We met at Holmas stand at the entrance of the park to set them up. The stand was still there a few years ago, but it's gone now. THis ran from the mid fifties to the late 60's. Cars were getting too fast and the cops shut it down.

Thanks Ron, took me a while to get through it.
