Default This fire thing and my truck is getting old

Monday evening we came home just in time to see the fire department cutting a hole in my garage/shop roof to vent the fire that was burning in it. We talked to one of the officers and they told the fire guys that my truck was in the garage. The fire guys used a hot saw to cut open my new garage door and pushed the truck outside. The truck was smoked inside and out but it doesn't have any significant damage. The shop wasn't so lucky.

All my tool boxes were flooded and my lathe, milling machines, welders and etc look pretty grim but, they're only stuff. It can all be replaced in need be.

We'll be living in a hotel for at least a month but, it could have been much worse.

The truck just missed being in a shop fire a few months ago as my paint guy didn't have room for it.

This fire thing and my truck is getting old.

Sorry to hear about your fire. Hope the truck is ok. Always interested in what caused the fire so we can maybe learn from it to prevent one ourselves. I am in the safety field and just had a recent experience in the family where electrical wiring in a newly remodeled kitchen started the fire. I believe we should all be looking in to installing arc fault circuit interrupters on circuits that see constant use like a refrigerators, etc.
What can happen is an electrical defect can arc to ground through a poor conductor of electricity like steel, and heat that conductor surface up to 1000 degrees with out tripping the regular breaker.

Glad it turned out no worse than it could have. In a way its a good thing your truck is an old one. They couldn't have pushed out a newer one that had steering column and transmission locks on them when parked.
